WHO Urges Medical Evacuations for Gaza Patients
(MENAFN) In a recent statement, World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus revealed that over 15,800 people in Gaza are currently in dire need of medical evacuation.
These patients require advanced medical treatment that is not accessible within the territory, which is enduring relentless Israeli assaults and severe shortages of resources.
Sharing an update via the American social media platform X, Tedros detailed the latest humanitarian efforts concerning medical evacuations from Gaza.
"This morning, WHO evacuated 18 child and 1 adult patient from Gaza to Jordan, along with 62 companions," he announced.
He further stated that "since October 2023, WHO has supported medical evacuations for over 7600 patients, including 5300 child patients."
Despite these efforts, Tedros emphasized that the situation remains critical. "Still, more than 15,800 critical patients need urgent specialized care that they cannot receive in Gaza," he warned.
The WHO chief appealed to additional nations to accept Palestinian patients requiring emergency intervention, highlighting the need to resume medical transfer pathways to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem.
He concluded his message with a powerful statement: "The best medicine is peace."
Since October 2023, Israeli military operations have reportedly resulted in the deaths of nearly 63,000 Palestinians in Gaza.
The sustained offensive has ravaged the region, pushing it into the grip of a humanitarian catastrophe, including widespread hunger.
In November of last year, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza.
