Trump Warns of Renewed Israeli Military Action
“What’s going on with Hamas – that’ll be straightened out quickly,” Trump remarked during the conversation.
When asked about possible scenarios if Hamas refuses to disarm, Trump asserted, “Israel will return to those streets as soon as I say the word. If Israel could go in and knock the crap out of them, they’d do that.”
He went on to say, “I had to hold them back,” implying that he has restrained Israel from further escalation, at least for now.
Trump emphasized that securing the freedom of 20 living Israeli hostages was “paramount.” However, he added that Hamas is now expected to honor the full terms of the truce by returning the remains of deceased captives and agreeing to disarm.
Meanwhile, Hamas announced on Wednesday its intent to transfer the bodies of two additional Israeli hostages as part of the truce deal.
The group’s military faction, the Qassam Brigades, revealed that the handover would occur at 10 p.m. local time (1900 GMT), asserting that it has “abided by what was agreed upon, delivering all living captives it held and all the bodies it was able to reach.”
Hamas also noted that retrieving the rest of the remains “requires significant effort and specialized equipment” and that the group is “working hard to close this file.”
Last week, Trump revealed that both Hamas and Israel had accepted the initial stage of a strategy he introduced on September 29.
The plan aims to establish a truce in Gaza, facilitate the release of all Israeli captives in return for Palestinian detainees, and initiate a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the entire Gaza Strip. The first stage of this initiative began on Friday.
