Moscow alleges Ukraine of planning ‘terrorist attacks’ on Russia

(MENAFN) Russia has accused Ukraine of preparing to use US-supplied long-range Tomahawk missiles to carry out “terrorist attacks” on Russian territory.

According to reports, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Wednesday that “the Kiev regime is not hiding its preparation of new terrorist attacks against our country aimed at escalating the conflict.” She added that it is “obvious” these plans are tied to the potential delivery of Tomahawks.

US officials have previously indicated that Washington is considering sending the missiles, which have a range of approximately 2,500 km, to Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed discussions with US President Donald Trump, who suggested he might approve the deliveries if he judged that “this war is not going to get settled.”

Moscow has repeatedly warned that supplying the missiles would escalate the conflict and damage improving US-Russia relations. Earlier this month, Zelensky announced the approval of “asymmetrical responses” by Ukraine’s special services, threatening strikes on Russia’s Belgorod and Kursk regions to cause blackouts and potentially disrupt power in Moscow.

Zakharova also criticized the European Union, accusing it of prolonging the conflict by facilitating potential Tomahawk deliveries and displaying a “complete lack of political will for peace.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin has similarly warned that providing Tomahawks would mark “a new stage of escalation,” noting that their use is “without the direct involvement of American military personnel… impossible.”

Reports indicate that logistical challenges could further complicate the transfers, as Ukraine currently lacks the necessary land- or sea-based launchers. The US could provide the land-based Typhon system capable of firing the missiles, but such a move would increase the risk of direct confrontation between Washington and Moscow.
