Protests Escalate After ICE Shooting in Minnesota

(MENAFN) Demonstrations expanded across the United States on Thursday following the fatal shooting of a woman by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officer in the state of Minnesota, triggering widespread anger and renewed debate over federal law enforcement actions.

In Minneapolis, where the shooting occurred on Wednesday, protesters continued to confront federal authorities. The victim, identified as 37-year-old Renee Nicole Good, was an American citizen and a mother of three. Fearing that tensions could intensify, city officials suspended school classes on Thursday and Friday as a precautionary measure.

Reports of scuffles and detentions emerged near the Whipple Federal Building on the outskirts of the city. Videos shared on social media appeared to show federal officers detaining at least one demonstrator while crowds shouted slogans such as “Go home!” and “Police state!” amid the unrest.

In New York City, demonstrators gathered at the World Trade Center complex, where Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem was holding a press briefing.

The rally followed a protest march late Wednesday night at nearby Foley Square, signaling growing momentum in the city.

Authorities anticipate further demonstrations later on Thursday in several major metropolitan areas, including Washington, D.C., New York City, Seattle, Los Angeles, and Chicago, along with other locations nationwide.

U.S. President Donald Trump and senior government officials have defended the ICE agent’s actions, stating that the shooting was carried out in self-defense to prevent the woman from allegedly attempting to run over federal agents.
